Who we are

Mr. Tolman grew up in Fort Worth, attending Wedgwood Middle School and Southwest High School—both known for their tradition of excellence at UIL contests. During his high school years, he became an accomplished baritone saxophonist, earning spots in the Texas 4A and 5A All-State Bands as well as the All-State Jazz Band.

He went on to study at the University of North Texas, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. While at UNT, he performed in saxophone quartets and duets, the UNT Concert Band, the Wind Ensemble, the renowned 4 O’Clock Lab Band under Garrett Wingfield, and José Aponte’s Latin Jazz Ensemble.

With 19 years of experience on the saxophone, Mr. Tolman is a versatile performer on alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. He is also an active jazz musician in the DFW area, playing in Rick Stitzel’s TCC South Jazz Band and freelancing with Buddy’s Big Band at Southside Preservation Hall and the annual Dallas Military Gala.

Currently in his seventh year of teaching band at Monnig Middle School in Fort Worth ISD, Mr. Tolman brings extensive knowledge of woodwinds and brass to his students. He specializes in saxophone instruction and is proficient in teaching all five primary woodwinds (flute, oboe, bassoon, clarinet, and saxophone). He also offers introductory lessons on brass instruments—including French horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and tuba—as well as piano, bass guitar, and drum set.

Mr. Tolman is a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA). His lifelong dedication to music performance, education, and craftsmanship now extends to his instrument repair shop, where he combines his expertise as a musician and educator to provide high-quality service for fellow musicians.
